There have been alarming reports of gunfire at the election campaign office of Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party’s candidate for the U.S. presidency, who has Indian roots. On Wednesday, September 25, police confirmed the incident, stating that several rounds were fired at her campaign office in Arizona around midnight by unidentified individuals.
The Tempe Police Department reported some damage at the Democratic National Committee’s office near Southern Avenue and Priest Drive. Public Information Officer Sergeant Ryan Cook noted, “Thankfully, there was no one inside the office at the time, but this raises serious concerns about the safety of those working in that building and the surrounding community.”
Officers have arrived at the scene to collect evidence, and authorities have increased security in the area as a precaution. Following the incident, staff from the Democratic National Committee’s office assessed the situation, suspecting that the shots may have come from the front windows.
With just a few months left until the U.S. presidential election, this incident echoes recent tensions in the political landscape. Notably, Republican candidate Donald Trump narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in Florida when a man, identified as 58-year-old Ryan Routh from Hawaii, was arrested for hiding with weapons while Trump was golfing. Just days before that, Trump faced another serious threat at a rally in Pennsylvania, where a shooter injured him and two others before being neutralized by a sniper.
These events underscore the rising volatility in the current political climate and the urgent need for security and vigilance.
