Justice Jackson Voices Concern Over Trump Immunity Decision

Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson has expressed her unease about the court’s recent decision to grant extensive immunity to former President Donald Trump. In an interview with CBS News, Jackson noted her apprehension over a ruling that appears to treat Trump differently compared to others in the criminal justice system. She questioned the fairness of granting immunity under specific circumstances when the justice system traditionally applies equal treatment.

Jackson, who dissented from the 6-3 ruling on July 1, was speaking as she promotes her forthcoming memoir, “Lovely One,” due for release next week. The Supreme Court’s decision has impacted ongoing criminal cases involving Trump, particularly delaying special counsel Jack Smith’s case concerning attempts to overturn the 2020 election. Despite this, Trump remains liable for prosecution regarding unofficial actions.

The Supreme Court is anticipated to encounter significant election-related litigation this fall. When asked about her preparedness, Jackson affirmed her readiness to address any legal challenges that arise from the political process.
