The three-day-long 177th Founder’s Day celebrations at The Lawrence School, Sanawar concluded on a high note on Friday, featuring Mrs. Kiran Tandan Nadar, OS of the 1966 batch, Chairperson of the Kiran Nadar Museum of Arts, and Trustee of the Shiv Nadar Foundation, who graced the Trooping of School Flag Parade, adding elegance to the event.
The highlight of the closing ceremony was the “Trooping of The School Flag” Parade. A total of 120 students marched with impeccable grace, demonstrating their deep respect for the institution. Following the parade, the chief guest presented awards and prizes. A notable aspect of the celebration was the OS Celebrity marchpast, which saw attendance from prominent figures including Omar Abdullah, Olympian Shiva Keshavan, Bollywood director Apoorva Lakhia, actor Iqbal Khan, director Iqbal Rizvi, corporate entrepreneur Vivek Mehra, and local MLA Vinod Sultanpuri, among others.
Headmaster Himmat Singh Dhillon presented the school’s progress report. In welcoming the chief guest, he expressed immense pride in stating that the school has consistently grown, particularly over the past year, during which it has received numerous awards, including the prestigious ‘Rank No. 1’.
Awards distributed included the Chief of the Army Staff Trophy, which went to Ananya Goyal and Jai Mukund Bhan. Dia Atal received the Yashpal Chaudhary Gold Medal, while Jayant Sharma was honored with the Nellie Lovell OS Gold Medal. Dia Atal was again recognized with the Shadi Ram Gold Medal, and Masoom Chauhan received the Bhagwati Devi Gold Medal. Anit Toor and Aditya Das were awarded the Thimayya Cup. The Khetrapal Trophy for School Band Leader was presented to Adeev Pratap Singh Dhillon. The Carlill Cup was awarded to Ranav Singh, while Muskan Malhotra received both the Neelu Sharma Trophy and a cash award. This year’s Somdutt Trophy went to Dia Atal, the Catherine Longman Public Speaking Trophy was awarded to Vindhya House, and the Mahindra Search for Talent Scholarship was presented to Himalaya House.
During the program, Kiran Tandan Nadar also inaugurated a new girls’ dormitory. The OS Lifetime Achievers Award was conferred posthumously on film critic Aruna Vasdev, alongside Siddharth Kak, the presenter of DD’s Surabhi, and golf coach Jaskirat Grewal.
In an address to the media, former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah praised the significant improvements in infrastructure at The Lawrence School, Sanawar, particularly noting enhancements in the sports facilities.
“There has been phenomenal improvement in infrastructure at Sanawar in recent years, especially in sports. The playing grounds look impressive, allowing children to play freely without the fear of getting hurt,” stated Mr. Abdullah.
He commended the school’s initiatives to create a safer and more encouraging environment for students to engage in sports, emphasizing that such developments are vital for the overall growth of the students.
