Onion Price Hike: The government took this step to provide relief from rising prices

Onion Price Update: Onion prices are expected to fall in the coming days in India. If you are also troubled by the rising prices of onion, then this news is important for you.

Recently, the government has removed the export duty on onions, due to which prices are fluctuating. The retail price of onion in Delhi-NCR has reached Rs 70 to 80 per kg.

To control inflation, the government has decided to increase the sale of ‘buffer stock’ in the wholesale market. Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare said that the government has started selling onions from its ‘buffer stock’ in Delhi and other major cities.

The government aims to promote retail sales of onions at subsidized rates across the country, so that prices can be kept under control. Khare said, “We have a ‘buffer stock’ of 4.7 lakh tonnes and due to the increase in Kharif sowing, we expect onion prices to remain stable.”

The government plans to sell onions at a subsidised rate of Rs 35 per kg, especially in cities where prices are higher than average.
